Delabole Wind Fair Whips Up A Storm For Low Carbon Living!

Extreme weather on Saturday 5th July did not stop visitors turning up in their hundreds from all over the region to learn about low carbon living at Good Energy’s annual Delabole Wind Fair!

There was plenty to do in the huge marquee, including interesting forums on solar and wind power, great goodies up for grabs at the Good Energy shop, kids entertainment, and fantastic locally produced food and drink.

Brigit Strawbridge of BBC2’s It’s Not Easy Being Green also drew in the crowds with her inspiring talk on sustainable living for everyone. Her handy hints included practical information on using materials like hemp as insulation for your house, alternatives to cotton (such as Banana leaf, which feels like silk), and even quirkier things like how to make funky jewellery out of old telephone wires!

Juliet Davenport, CEO of Good Energy and renowned speaker on renewables, commented on the event: "This was the first year that Delabole’s windy aspect nearly made us cancel the Wind Fair!  On Friday night, one of the marquees took off and it looked like the 2008 wind fair would be a wash out.  However, the fair went ahead and we had over 500 visitors – and for those who did come it was a lovely event. The atmosphere was great and there was genuine interest in how renewables worked and what people can do to lead a low carbon lifestyle."

The Wind Fair took place at the Delabole Wind Farm, North Cornwall on Saturday 5th July from 11am-4pm.
