Listed Property Show
We’re moving on to The Listed Property Show at Olympia on 20/21st February 2010.  The Listed Property Show is in its fourth year and provides practical advice, ideas and inspiration for current and prospective owners of listed properties.

Period homes and listed buildings are seen to be notoriously difficult to implement green measures, but it is essential that we look at reducing the energy use and environmental impact of these properties so that they are viable for the future.

The EcoVillage area of the Listed Property Show aims to demonstrate products and services suitable for listed properties and bring information from our specialist exhibitors about how to increase efficiency and reduce carbon in listed properties. The EcoVillage hopes to help owners of listed properties conserve their buildings for the future by making them sustainable and therefore allowing them to continue being homes and not museums.

Space rate is £240 per sq m for shell scheme excluding light and power.

Why exhibit in the EcoVillage?
The EcoVillage is an event platform that specifically supports green products and services. Exhibiting with us reinforces your green credentials, as well as giving you specific support in the run up to the event.  The EcoVillage team looks after all of its exhibitors, making sure you get the most out of the event.  We always attend the event, and are on hand to make sure the area is run smoothly for you.

In addition to event coverage you also get

Eco Print wins Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s Green Business Award

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

greenawardsEco Print of Salisbury has won a Highly Commended Award for Green Media, Marketing and Communications in the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s Green Business Awards. The Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s Green Business Awards were established to reward businesses in Wiltshire and Swindon that are making serious efforts to minimise their impact on the environment. The Award Ceremony was held on Friday 16th October 2009 at the Four Pillars Cotswold Water Park Hotel, with guest speaker Dick Strawbridge, MBE. The only winners in their category, Eco Print’s committed environmental policy has marked them out as leaders in the region.

Not only is Eco Print a ‘green’ company in itself, but it facilitates the reduction of waste and energy usage within its clients’ businesses by providing 100% eco-friendly printing. By using recycled papers, Eco Print helps reduce the energy that is required to pulp virgin fibre. The use of biodegradable vegetable inks means that there is no chemical residue left after Eco Print materials are disposed of. Wiltshire Wildlife Trust was impressed by Eco Print’s demonstation of effort in reusing materials that are routinely discarded such as their range of exotic papers made from rhino poo, elephant poo, straw, beer barrel dregs and bank notes to name a few.

The vision of Graham Addison, Director of Eco Print, is clear: founded in 2007 as a direct result of a strong belief in ethical business practice and commitment to a responsible environmental policy, Eco Print takes pride in understanding the causes and effects generated in the business world. Graham said:

I am very proud to win this ‘Wiltshire Wildlife Corporate Green’ award. It makes the extra effort of starting and running an Eco-conscious company all the more worthwhile and gives Eco Print the recognition it deserves as a leading Eco Printer in Wiltshire. I hope it gets our message out there to the green community that there is an alternative to conventional printing which gives great results whilst minimising damage to the environment”.

Eco AwardFar from resting on its successes, Eco Print continuously seeks to improve its eco-credentials. Internally, Eco Print constantly evaluates the effect its working practices have upon the environment: from telecoms to engineering design through to product disposal, always opting for an ecologically sound alternative. Externally, Eco Print has recently helped a local church maintain its Eco-Congregation status by producing its print materials, as well as supporting schools in the national Eco-Schools award scheme.

Furthermore, Eco Print is looking to set up a Green Sustainable Business Network in Salisbury to help support other green businesses in their pursuit to become more sustainable. Potentially, this initiative would promote green sustainable business as a financially viable proposition for Salisbury businesses in the present and future.

Indalo Art launches Rainbow Warrior design of pebble jewellery

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Indalo Art, which designs and crafts charmstone pebble jewellery based on the good luck symbol of the Indalo, has launched a new range of pebble jewellery charm stones to commemorate the commissioning of the new Greenpeace vessel, Rainbow Warrior 3. The new range is fashioned after one of the original ‘rainbow warriors’ – the Indalo, and is available as solid silver or silver-plated necklaces or pendants.

The Indalo rainbow warrior symbol is used as a good luck charm or talisman. It originates from paintings that were found on the walls of ancient Neolithic caves in Almeria, southern Spain, in the middle of the last Century and which date back over 4,500 years. It is the figure of a man holding a rainbow in outstretched arms – not dissimilar to other such paintings found around the world, which are also referred to as rainbow warriors – and especially in the prophecies of the native American Indian tribes such as the Sioux, the Hopi and the Cree, who predict that “Warriors of the Rainbow” will save the world from environmental destruction. It was from here that Greenpeace coined the original name.

The new vessel, Rainbow Warrior 3, is being built by the Fassmer shipbuilding company in Bremen, Germany, and will be the first purpose-built ship to enter the Greenpeace fleet. It will replace the aged Rainbow Warrior 2 which has been involved in environmental campaigning around the world for over 20 years.

Indalo Art is located near the Indalo caves in Almeria, Andalucia, which were declared a National Historical Monument in 1924 – and are now a site of UNESCO World Heritage. Natural pebble jewellery appeals especially to people who are interested in holistic and ethical lifestyles, and Indalo Art’s eco-friendly philosophy is of particular interest to environmentally-conscious people. Examples of the new Rainbow Warrior design (as well as other designs) can be found at http://www.indaloart.com/.

Leadership in Sustainability

Monday, October 26th, 2009

The first event last month in ASP’s Leadership in Sustainability series confirmed that this topic is a key focus for organisations looking to adapt and re-organise themselves as we come through the current economic turmoil.

ASP is now collaborating with Professor Steve Onyett to produce the second event:

“Leading from within living systems”

A facilitated and highly experiential event exploration of what our emerging understanding of living systems tells us about leadership.  We are really pleased to have contributions from:

  • Tim Macartney, Founder of Embercombe and author of “Finding Earth Finding Soul”, and
  • Wendy Stephenson, CEO at The Converging World and The Third Floor

Further details: http://www.asp-online.org/events/leadership/overview.pdf

This event will be of value to anyone involved in working towards a more sustainable future, whether or not you have a formal leadership role and want to develop your own leadership, or working to increase leadership capacity within your organisation.

Working with Steve to develop this event has been very inspiring and a lot of fun – so we are really looking forward to a special event, very different from any event we have produced to date.

Fair trade Christmas trees now available to order online

Monday, October 26th, 2009

10% off all orders placed before 9th November

Use promotion code NFT10 when checking out online

Brand new in the UK this Christmas, these Nordmann Fir Christmas trees have been grown from seeds ethically sourced in Georgia.

Until now, Georgian cone pickers have all worked in dangerous conditions to source seeds for our festive trees and have been paid very little for their efforts.

But now you can help change all that by buying a beautiful Fair Tree.

Fairwind is proud to be first importer and distributor of Fair Trees in the UK, with celebrity support from Katie Melua.

You can only get these trees through Fairwind.

So order your real fair trade Christmas tree now for delivery in the week beginning 7th December.

The first 50 people to order a tree will receive a free silk star tree decoration.

Katie Melua:

“I am absolutely thrilled that fair trade has reached the poor cone pickers of Georgia. Fair Trees® is a wonderful project that helps improve the lives of many people in remote areas of Georgia, the country where I was born. I urge anyone who loves a real Christmas tree to buy a fair trade one this year.”

Tinatin Machahkalaze, 28, teacher in Tlugi, Georgia:

“When I first started, there were no doors in the building… it was hard to get the classrooms warm enough. We are very happy that Fair Trees® could provide doors in our school, as one step in providing decent schooling to the children. I myself have a 2 year-old boy who is going to attend this school. I’m particularly pleased that Fair Trade is providing health insurance for both my child and all the other children in this region.”
