Jeddah Mali – Residential Course – Schumacher College

Sunday, May 22nd, 2011

What does the future world we desire require of us now?

At this time of great challenge, we need to ask how we created the world we currently inhabit and how we can develop the skills and understanding to act wisely, and in harmony with the needs of the Earth and wider society.

Internationally renowned teacher and mentor Jeddah Mali combines experiential wisdom with the latest scientific discoveries to throw new light on the role of harmony, coherence and empathy in human life and suggests positive new directions in the eternal search for peace on Earth.

Using a combination of presentations, discussion, written exercises and closed eye analysis (analytical meditation), this essential course offers participants the opportunity to spend deep time with Jeddah, in the tranquillity of the Devon countryside, to learn how to discover solutions to the many questions that existence asks of us.

  • How do you find answers to the many questions you have?
  • Discover how science and spirituality combine to offer new directions in our search for peace.
  • Find out how through expanded awareness, we as individuals can make a significant difference.

Join the Revolution

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

We were thrilled to receive an invitation to the ‘Join the Revolution’ event which was organised by the Co-operative Group to re-launch their ethics. At the event they revealed a new three-year Ethical Operating Plan, something they have never officially had as part of their business plan. They want to lead the way for other businesses to follow – hence the nameJoin the Revolution’.

They are doing this now as they feel there is a need for a ‘steep change’ in ethics given the climate we are living, and trading, in. The plan covers many areas including protecting the environment, keeping communities thriving and supporting co-operatives.

We are very pleased that a vital element of the plan is devoted to tackling global poverty through Fairtrade. Subsequently, the Co-operative Group will continue to show their commitment to Fairtrade in the UK, remaining second to none in terms of availability and overtrade, and will now aim that if a primary commodity from the developing world can be Fairtrade, it will be Fairtrade by 2013. They plan that 90% of the primary commodities sourced from the developing world will be certified to Fairtrade standards by 2013.

They will also develop a unique range of projects and initiatives that benefit producers. For example, in Malawi, they are running a three year project to provide water pumps, toilets and fuel-efficient cooking stoves to over 10,000 people in Fairtrade communities with whom they trade.

We fully support this new revolutionary approach to social responsibility. You can view the plan by clicking here.

Laws and regulations don’t guarantee ethical behaviour

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

We have laws, regulations and organisation policies, but they don’t guarantee ethical behaviour. Ethics is personal and rarely simple; it’s about individuals finding, and refining, their sense of responsibility to others.

The public’s perception of what is ethical and responsible is constantly evolving, and not necessarily related to whether the current rules are followed, as many of our politicians discovered to their cost. That’s why Quakers and Business have launched a new development programme, which focuses on the unchanging fundamentals of ethics, not constantly changing rules and regulations.

A deeper consideration of ethical responsibilities helps in various ways;

  • To clarify an organisation’s ethical responsibilities
  • To establish what it means to lead and manage responsibly
  • To embed a sense of ethical responsibility throughout an organisation
  • To clarify your personal sense of ethics

The programme provides the tools to consider any aspect of ethics in your professional and personal lives. More information at www.qandb.org/ethicsprog.

“BEST BUSINESS PRACTICE IN UNCERTAIN TIMES” , Quakers and Business Autumn Conference at Friend`s House, Euston, London, 9-5 on 17th Nov 2010.

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Dear Colleagues,

We invite you to the Quakers and Business Autumn Conference,

Our theme is “BEST BUSINESS PRACTICE IN UNCERTAIN TIMES”

And we are really lucky to have Gillian Tett of the FT as the keynote speaker.

The day will be packed with learning opportunities, networking time and a chance to reflect on how you and your business are reacting to these difficult times.

We recognized that it’s easier to hold to our principles in the good times, and that these times will test us sometimes to the limit. We wanted to take some time to reflect and build, so that we are more able to find a way through to withstand the pressure. We hope you will join us and that you will go away refreshed.

We do expect a good response to this conference and places are limited so please do book early – you can see the programme and book your place through the Q&B website at www.qandb.org

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you on the day,
