A
New Start / Potential Plus Network Conference

Manchester,
21st May 2009

This
Masterclass focuses on the use of NLP to enhance daily interactions
with others, to create a step change in the functioning of social
enterprises, community and voluntary organisations.

NLP
(neuro-linguistic programming) is recognised as the premier ‘people
change’ discipline across many diverse fields of endeavour.
From sporting success to sales and marketing, from board rooms to
family therapy; NLP has been used successfully for decades to help
people to be the best they can be.

Potential Plus Network’s
consultants have been working to apply NLP principles in their work
in the social enterprise and regeneration sector for many years, with
notable successes in the UK and beyond.  They are now working
closely with New Start to offer masterclasses sharing their success
principles with other regeneration practitioners.

This
masterclass focuses on the use of NLP to enhance daily interactions
with others, to create a step change in the functioning of groups,
communities and organisations.

The masterclass will provide an
introduction to some of the underlying principles of NLP, and a
chance for all participants to begin to experience the power of
applying these through interactive learning situations.
Participants will also take away a suite of practical tools they can
apply in their own workplaces.

Feedback from
participants in past New Start / Potential Plus masterclasses was

Each

This includes information about how to apply the principles in your
daily work and a suite of practical tools which you can start using
immediately.

The Knitter celebrates World Fair Trade Day with all-ethical issue

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

 Future’s
recent launch, The
Knitter
is
celebrating World Fair Trade Day on the 9th
May with an all-ethical
issue, with every aspect of the magazine using organic or ethical
products and patterns.

 On
sale today, and printed on environmentally-approved  Forestry
Stewardship Council paper; every pattern is knitted in an organic or
ethical yarn, each new product featured has ethical credentials, and
the garments and accessories for the photoshoot were as ethically
sound as possible.  The team even recycled their teabags whilst
putting the issue together!

 Ethical
living guru, Lucy Siegel – who writes for The Observer and is a
reporter for The One Show on BBC TV contributes a feature on how
knitters can make an informed choice when buying yarn. Lucy helps
knitters to understand how to be a better consumer even in these
difficult times, with advice on chemical usage, cruelty-free
production, knitting with plant fibres and keeping it local.

Exclusive
patterns using organic or ethical yarns include a Moroccan-inspired
tunic by Martin Storey, embroidered socks by Lucinda Guy, a feminine
tie-fronted cardigan by Amanda Crawford, and a 1940s fitted top
brought up to date with modern yarns and fitting.

 Juliet
Bernard, Editor of The Knitter said:

 ”When
we discussed doing an ethical issue it was very important to us that
we could turn our whole issue over to ethical principles and not just
pay lip service to the idea.  Our readers will be able to see
how the choices they make can have a really positive impact. Ethical
living is extremely important to me and I am very proud of what we
have achieved in Issue 5 of The Knitter.”

 Regular
features include inspiring patterns from around the world, a
techniques Masterclass on short-row shaping, a competition to raise
money for Macmillan Cancer Support and an exclusive column from the
stars of America’s blogging scene, Mason-Dixon.

 Issue
5 of The Knitter is on sale now, priced at £5.99.

North Norfolk Coast Earth Day

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Less than two weeks to Earth Day and preparations are going well for Deepdale’s 2nd Annual North Norfolk Coast Earth Day. The village of Burnham Deepdale, with its 40 permanent residents, will join cities like New York, London and Tokyo to bring awareness about the environment and sustainable living on Earth Day, which happens every year on 22nd April.

The North Norfolk Coast Earth Day is free to visitors.  They can
talk to more than 30 exhibitors, inside the barns of Deepdale Farm and
around the hostel and campsite of Deepdale Backpackers and Camping.
Visitors are also welcome to attend a range of talks throughout the day
and there will be guided tours of the eco-friendly holiday
accommodation that Deepdale has to offer.

Exhibitors include companies that provide renewable technologies,
advisors, conservation organisations and pressure groups.  You can
learn all you need about solar panels, wind turbines, insulating your
home, encouraging wildlife into your garden, organic fruit and veg,
composting and many other aspects of sustainable living.

Of course with the credit crunch affecting most people, there will be
good information about saving money.  The key is that most aspects of
sustainable (or green) living can actually save you money.  The Energy
Saving Trust will be giving out energy saving light bulbs to those who
fill out their questionnaires.  Other energy and money saving advice
will be available around the site during the day.

Norfolk Green who run the highly successful Coasthopper bus service,
that connects the rest of the world to Burnham Deepdale, will be
bringing one of their eco-friendly coast hopper buses.  Norfolk’s
Master Composters will be giving advice about getting the most out of
your compost heap.  Norfolk County Council and West Norfolk Borough
Council will be explaining the waste and environmental services they
provide.  Norfolk Coast Partnership, who manage the Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty along the north Norfolk coast, will be explaining what
they do and grants that may be available.

“North Norfolk Coast Earth Day is about an enjoyable day, learning what
sustainable living is and how you can be involved.  The day is for
everyone, whether you’re a sceptic, just want to save money, need help
to green up your business or have a general interest in conservation.
We look forward to welcoming you to Deepdale.” said Jason Borthwick,
partner of Deepdale Farms and one of the organisers of the event.

Visitors can easily reach Deepdale by public transport.  The
Coasthopper bus service runs to Burnham Deepdale from Cromer,
Sheringham, Hunstanton and Kings Lynn connecting with trains and other
bus services.  You can also cycle or walk and there is ample car
parking.  Of course you could stay the night before or after in a
private ensuite room, tipi, tent or dorm bed, which the eco-friendly
hostel and campsite offer.

The North Norfolk Coast Earth Day opens at 10am and continues until 4pm
on Wednesday 22nd April 2009.  Lunch, snacks and other refreshments
will be available from the Deepdale Café outside catering wagon, which
will be on the campsite, or from Deepdale Café and Leftley’s Costcutter
supermarket next door at Dalegate Market.

HouseHeat Products at My Greener Home

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

My Greener Home™ now sells the HouseHeat range of products to cut your central heating bill. Househeat is a fantastic new set of products that allow you to control the temperature of each room in your house independently to save you money. As long as you have Thermostatic Radiator Valves on your radiators you can fit Househeat in minutes and begin cutting your heating bill straight away. The equipment is modular so you can start by installing it in one room to try it out, and then expand it to control the radiators in each room of your home.

At its simplest, HouseHeat consists of a thermostat unit that you mount
on the wall of your room, which communicates wirelessly with a
motorised valve that you install on your radiator. When the temperature
of the room reaches the level you have set, the valve will turn the
radiator off, and when the temperature of the room starts to drop
again, the valve turns the radiator back on.

The benefit of HouseHeat is that it will control the temperature of
each room in which it is installed without any intervention by you. Ask
yourself how often you adjust the settings on your radiator. Do you
turn down the temperature settings in each room at night and then turn
them back up again in the morning? With the built in timer the
HouseHeat can allow the temperature of the room to fall to a lower
level at night (saving you money) and then bring it back up again in
the morning. The system can be set so you have more warmth in the
bedroom at night, and more warmth in the living room during the day.
All of these changes reduce the amount of time that your boiler is
burning fuel to heat parts of your house unnecessarily.

Visit My Greener Home™ at http://www.mygreenerhome.co.uk

…and see these new HouseHeat products here.

Further information:

With conventional hot-water central-heating systems using thermostatic
radiator valves, temperature-measurement errors arise because the
thermostat is too close to the radiator. With HouseHeat the Wireless
Room Thermostat is not physically connected to the radiator and may be
placed wherever desired in the room so temperature control is more
precise and is sensed in the desired location in the room itself, not
next to a radiator.

Furthermore, the room temperature only needs to be set at one location
in the room – namely on the HouseHeat Wireless Room Thermostat. With a
conventional heating system using thermostatic radiator valves, the
temperature needs to be set on each individual radiator.

A fully customisable daily and weekly programme enables the temperature
to be precisely regulated separately in every room in a house,
delivering accurate control of individual room temperatures according
to your personal needs and requirements. Separate day- and
night-programmes for each day of the week are definable. There is also
an override function to allow you to temporarily change the temperature
if required – for example, if you go away on holiday.

Because the HouseHeat system operates wirelessly, no cables, wires or
pipes are required for its installation – which means no disruption of
your home or damage to your décor. Installation is fast and simple,
with no need to drain radiators during installation.

About My Greener Home™

The company was founded in 2007, by Edwin Lloyd, formerly head of
global telecoms hedge funds at Norges Bank Investment Management, part
of the Norwegian Central Bank. He discovered the UK lacked a single
website selling credible energy and water saving products.  Consumers
affected by both the Credit Crunch and with a growing social
conscience, are demanding these products.  He, as a new father, also
wanted the safest and greenest goods for his children.

My Greener Home™ helps consumers save on their bills and reduce the impact on the environment. The four main product areas are:
1. Energy saving (reduce your heating bill and electricity usage)
2. Water saving (either by using less water, or by reusing rain or grey water)
3. Recycling (compost bins and rubbish compactors)
4. Lifestyle (wind-up radios and MP3 players, baby products)

The most popular product so far has been the Chimney Balloon which is
used to stop heat loss up (and cold air coming down) unused chimneys.
Father Christmas was the only one who didn’t appreciate it! My Greener
Home™ is constantly on the look out for innovative and inexpensive
devices to make homes greener. If you have heard of one, let us know,
and we’ll call them up.

Edwin Lloyd, Founder of My Greener Home™, commented:  ‘I started My
Greener Home™ when I found there was no single company that saved my
family money and had an environmental conscience.  We are always
looking for companies to work with, who have the same ethos as us.’
