Appearing
this month on the shelves in WH Smith and Borders nationwide, new eco-living
directory BOOK OF GREEN is the most comprehensive guide for everybody to
genuinely and easily green their lifestyles.
With
the general public currently becoming more receptive to living a more
eco-friendly life, this completely free guide points the consumer in the right
direction – it includes hundreds of approved ethical providers in a wide range
of sectors including business services, health and beauty, home and garden,
green energy, travel, parenting and food & drink. All the companies
in the directory are in some way mostly or completely environmentally friendly,
sustainable, fair trade, organic, ethical and socially responsible.
Book
of Green is intended to show everybody how to easily reduce their carbon
footprint, live a healthy lifestyle and make a personal positive
impact on the environment by integrating truly ethical products and services
into their daily home and family lives.
With
an initial print run of 30,000, the guide comes in a handy A5 format and is
printed in vegetable inks on 100% recycled paper. An online flip magazine
version is also available at www.bookofgreen.com
Book of Green will be available in WH Smiths this July, attached to the
front of Permaculture Magazine as well as distributed across the UK in high
street eco stores, online eco stores, and at events during the summer as well
as at the Eden Project and the Kent Eco Village, the Kent Show by The
Ecologist, July 17-19.
Book
of Green is co-founded by Sue Jueno (founder of Allthingseco) and Katie Keegan
(founder of One Green Earth),
whose combined experience of 6 years in the eco/ethical business arena
has given them the experience, knowledge and contacts to create a guide for
green living which everybody can trust.
“Being
green is more than reducing the threat of climate change, it’s also about
ethical trading and personal health. The companies found within Book of
Green provide solutions across all sectors through their products &
services to help build a positive foundation for your family’s future
generations,” says Katie Keegan.
“With
credit crunch in mind and a passion for promoting green shoot businesses we
have made Book of Green extremely affordable to advertisers and free to the
public to show off exceptional companies that are solving environmental
problems and that will be leading us into the future,” says Sue Jueno.

Back
to work, Simon de Glanville left the pigeons
in Peckham and headed for sunny Somerset for a seven day photo shoot
of Myakka’s fair trade furniture and home accessories. Myakka’s
annual photo shoot is on Simon’s professional calendar, whereas the
recent national media coverage he received for his photos of London’s
pigeons were taken in his spare time!
The
Myakka
annual photo shoot is an intense week providing the imagery required
for their new catalogue which will be released in the autumn. The
images are also used to promote their latest new products through
their ecommerce website.
“We
have worked with Simon for four
years now and the results we achieve are fantastic. The shoot is
intense and exhausting, but we have a lot of fun along the way!”
comments Georgie Hopkins, Director of Myakka.
Four
beautiful old English properties were used as locations including the
impressive Marston House. The manor house on the outskirts of Frome
was restored in 1984 by the Foster Yeoman family and is currently
used as parent company Aggregate Industries head quarters.
As
with every year,
the smooth running of the shoot is all in the planning which takes
many weeks of preparation prior to Simon arriving with his cameras.
Now the shoot has been completed the catalogue designers are busily
compiling the new Myakka catalogue ready for release in September.
“We
jokingly suggested Simon train the pigeons
he photographs in Peckham! Carrier pigeons would be a very
environmentally friendly way of distributing our new catalogues
across the country, although utilising his training methods we would
get through a lot of kebabs!”
said Georgie.
Myakka
tailors the designs of their furniture for the British market. All
the furniture is made in northern India by skilled craftsman using
the latest German computer controlled machinery ensuring the quality
is second to none. Myakka is an ethical business following fair
trade principles and is a recognised importer and retail member of
BAFTS (British Association of Fair Trade Shops). With a
sophisticated ecommerce website, a Warehouse Outlet in Wincanton,
Somerset and a comprehensive mail order catalogue, Myakka has a large
database of loyal customers across the UK. This summer Myakka is
celebrating a decade of business with a huge 10th
Birthday Summer Sale.
For

Here at NeonCollective.com we are all about killer heels without the kill. Neon Collective is the world’s first one-stop shop for high-end vegan accessories. We aim to shatter the misconception that vegans aren’t fashionable and provide green alternatives for the modern shopper.
We feel passionate that fabulous footwear can be free of leather and all other animal products but even if you don’t give a stuff about Daisy the cow, the leather tanning industry is one of the most polluting
industries on Earth. So we are joining Paul and Stella McCartney on their ‘Meat Free Monday’ campaign (supportmfm.org) to prove that by cutting down on leather, meat and any other animal products, you are making a positive step to promote animal welfare and are directly cutting CO2 emissions.
Throughout July NeonCollective.com will be specially discounting a different style of killer heels each Monday.
“I think many of us feel helpless in the face of environmental challenges, and it can be hard to know how to sort through the advice about what we can do to make a meaningful contribution to a cleaner, more sustainable, healthier world. Having one designated meat free day a week is actually a meaningful change that everyone can make”
Sir Paul McCartney
Kicking off on Monday 6th July with the seriously stylish BALANCE £90 (was £139).

With

Vegetarian and Vegan women like to dress as glamorously as anyone else, but their strong principles of not buying leather are rarely understood by the fashion industry, until now!
NeonCollective.com is a new website advocating a fresh concept in fashion retailing, a collection of like-minded designers and manufacturers who share one core belief: looking good needn’t cost a life.
Neon Collective brings the latest shoes and handbags from the world’s leading vegan and ethical designers into one stunning collection. For the first time, women everywhere can browse and purchase the latest trends in one place – safe in the knowledge no animal-derived products, or sweatshops have been used in their production.
Founder of NeonCollective.com is Clare Childs, 33, a former
television editor of BBC2 fashion show ‘Mary Queen of Shops.’ Childs
has been vegetarian all her life and is on a personal mission to make
retailing more accountable:
“As a vegetarian I feel I’ve been
neglected by mainstream fashion. There’s no reason why women should
have to sacrifice style and glamour in order to shop ethically, so Neon
Collective finally provides a choice of luxurious accessories that are
ethically sound. It’s never been more necessary; at a recent footwear
trade-show I found not only were most exhibitors oblivious to where
their leather had come from, but they weren’t interested in how the
animals had lived or died. To me, that is unacceptable.”
All
the designer shoes and handbags at NeonCollective.com are 100%
leather-free, but Childs believes that doesn’t mean they are only
suitable for vegans:
“Any fashionista would find our range
tempting, and our new gift vouchers will allow vegans and veggies to
show sceptics that ethical fashion can be just as cutting-edge. So if
you know a fashion-focused female, a voucher for Neon Collective is the
perfect Christmas gift.”
Our ranges include designs from
renowned vegan brands Matt & Nat, Charmone, Novacas and Cri De
Coeur. Plus we are the only UK retailer for hot labels OlsenHaus,
English Retreads and NeuAura. For further information please contact +44 (0)1273 231619

Ketan who is technical director of Ethical
Junction and Kate, who is EJ’s administrator, recently got married.
The couple are both vegans so they had an all vegan wedding (everyone
really liked the food!) and they set out to use as many Ethical Junction
companies as possible as part of their wedding. Kate and Ket would like
to give a big Thank You to all of the Ethical Junction companies that
they were able to make use of for their products and services as part
of their wedding.
They gleaned tips, practical advice and
inspiration from both Green Union and Ethical Weddings. Their rings
were ethically sourced from Fifi Bijoux
Kate, the Bride made her own dress and
jacket using organic fabric from Greenfibres, and wore shoes from Beyond
Skin, her necklace was from Natural Collection, her handbag was from
Feel Good Handbags, her make up from Beauty Without Cruelty and Inika.
Both the bride and groom used skin care products from Green People and
Simply Soaps, hair care products used were from both Faith In Nature
and Daniel Field.
Ket, The Groom wore an organic linen
suit (unfortunately not from an EJ, a gap in the marketplace there people!).
Ket’s shoes were from Natural Collection. The beautiful faritrade
roses that were used for the buttonholes and the bride’s bouquet were
from Imogen Stone (Kate kept the fairtrade tags on the rose stems).
Paper for the invites, place settings,
and table names was from the Exotic Paper Company and envelopes from
Eco-Craft. All the alcohol was from Vintage Roots (organic and vegan).
A Lot of Candles who is part of the company A Lot of Chocolates supplied
organic candles.
Ket’s band played to the guests as part of the evenings entertainment, and is currently having a bass guitar custom built by Simon Lee Guitars .
The couple used gift lists from Greenfibres,
Our Green Wedding List, Natural Collection and Bishopston Trading. The
honeymoon destination later in the year is to be at Bloomfield House.
Kate and Ket would like to say, “Thank
you to you all 22 Ethical Junction members for making our day so wonderful and memorable.”

The date for this year is Sunday 5 October from 10am – 5pm. in the Market Hall, Abergavenny. We have backing from Fairtrade Wales as well as local businesses and Abergavenny Council. There will be plenty of local and regional press coverage as well as BBC Wales.
Last year saw a huge attendance and we will increase this year. Stalls last year included – Love Zimbabwe, Goodies from the Gambia, Bag- Age, Bryn – y – Cwm project, Smouldering Sage,Biltong 2 U,Tropical Forest, Fairtrade Abergavenny & Crickhowell, Tools for self reliance, VSO, etc.
We also had fantastic catering from Scrumptious catering and Taste Zimbabwe. We will be having the Fairtrade fashion show again and the drumming workshop from Dave Roberts. Also, hopefully the amazing Chrys Blanchard and Abercapella. We have a school group performing African Dance and hope to be bringing over from Zimbabwe Sam Mtukudzi son of Oliver (Tuku) the most well known Zimbabwean artiste.
There will be a childrens area this year with face painting and a bouncy castle. Music and entertainment will be going on all day and there will be lots more to announce as we get nearer to the date. I realise that it is still relatively early, but it would help us enourmously if those who are interested in taking a stall this year could let me know as soon as possible. Looking forward to seeing you all in October.
Kind Regards,
David and Martha Holman.
