Social Enterprise Coalition

Social enterprises are businesses set up to tackle social and environmental needs. Well known examples include The Big Issue, Cafedirect and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen. There are at least 55,000 social enterprises in the UK with a combined turnover of £27 billion per year. Social enterprises account for 5% of all businesses with employees and contribute to £8.4 billion per year to the UK economy – almost 1% of annual GDP.

The Social Enterprise Coalition is the UK's national body for social enterprise. As the voice for the sector, the Coalition promotes the benefits of social enterprise through media work, campaigns and events, informs the policy agenda by working with all levels of government and other key decision makers, and undertakes research to expand the social enterprise evidence base.
