John Kettlewell Chartered Town Planner and CSH Assessor
John Kettlewell is a Chartered Town Planner with many years of experience in the field of housing development. He is currently practising as a planning consultant, specialising in urban design, masterplanning, regeneration and sustainability. He is also a BRE Licensed Assessor for the Code for Sustainable Homes and an EcoHomes Assessor. He is also a member of the British Urban Regeneration Association, the Town and Country Planning Association, the Urban Design Group and a Fellow of the Property Consultants Society.
He spent the first 9 years of his career in the service of various Local Authorities working in both development control and forward planning.
The following 9 years were spent in consultancy with surveying, agency and architectural practices providing specialist advice in planning and urban design, linked to land sales or the implementation of new development.
In 1984 he opened his own practice specialising in planning and urban design and was regularly engaged on new development projects, primarily housing. During this period, he represented many housebuilders, both national and local, in the process of appraisal and acquisition of potential development sites.
During the 10 years up to the end of 2005, he worked at a senior/board level with 5 national house builders with responsibilities for in-house planning and design, including many regeneration projects both in urban and village locations, with inputs to the preparation of Development Design Briefs and Detailed Design Guides for specific projects and, of course, the design and masterplanning of specific development proposals. He was also responsible for the preparation of bespoke or standard house/flat type designs for use in specific developments or a portfolio of unit types. During this period his responsibilities also included the management of the planning process, including pr-acquisition site appraisal, and the achievement of a successful outcome to this stage of the overall development programme.
