Charity Bank is a not-for-profit ethical bank that only lends for positive impact. Our mission is to finance charities and other ‘social profit’ organisations that address society’s needs, with the support of depositors and investors who want to encourage a more responsible and transparent use of money.
Loans for Good
We offer loans and support to charities, social enterprises and not-for-profit organisations. We provide loans to third sector organisations who are unable to access affordable finance elsewhere, or who simply prefer to work alongside a more ethical and responsible banking partner. Positive investment Every pound our customers deposit with us is lent responsibly to charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups that are doing great and necessary work – creating jobs, helping the vulnerable or generating income – in communities up and down the UK and beyond.
Transparency Our customers know exactly what we do with their money. We publish details of every loan we make in our meet our borrowers section of our website and in our project portfolio. Social Impact The difference we make, our social impact, is at the heart of who we are. Our work to create social change distinguishes us from other banks. Our depositors and investors have supported over 830 organisations, with loans worth £110 million touching the lives of more than 3 million people.
Ethical endorsement Ethical Company Accreditation Scheme has awarded Charity Bank for its ethical status. With a score of 100 out of 100, Charity Bank scored the maximum possible score. The score was given after Charity Bank was reviewed (most recently in 2009) against various criteria including irresponsible lending, environmental devastation and environmental reporting. Charity Bank is also a ‘best buy’ in the Ethical Consumer Buyers Guides to Bank Accounts.
Environmental Charity Bank prints all publications on recycled or other environmentally acceptable paper. We endeavour to reduce, reuse and to recycle. Our impact report revealed that 57% of our borrowers identify improvements in their environmental impacts post Charity Bank loan.
