Ethical and Environmental Policy
Our main principle when setting up The Aesthetes was to supply home accessories with as much social and environmental criteria as possible without compromising on quality, design or style.
Therefore when we purchase our items we keep in mind certain elements. We purchase all of our materials and products from independent small and medium sized businesses. From market stall holders to charitable organisations.
Our products are either recycled or upcycled. Many are one of a kind items. All of our items meet more than one of these criteria - Socially responsible Handmade - from our one of a kind paintings to our handmade gifts made or sourced in the UK
- All of our handmade items are made in the UK. All of our items in Le Flea are sourced in the UK. We do not have items that we have imported ourselves directly. These items are pre owned and are a mixture of used and unused conditions.
We also upcycle items - our embroidered gifts are made from small end pieces of cross stitch fabric from the local haberdashery shop. The furniture and home accessories from Curiously Off The Cuff are pieces that have been saved from going to landfill by being cleaned up and redesigned into new stylish pieces.
Energy efficient. Our equipment is energy efficient and we photograph our items in natural daylight. We use public transport when sourcing our items and purchasing materials.
A large majority of our packaging has been pre-used but is still very much adequate to reuse. Other packaging is recyclable and has been made from recycled materials.
Craftsmanship - individuality, handmade in the UK items are important to us. We would like to provide opportunities for training in local communities (currently only in the UK) for any age to learn new skills. We are currently “saving up for staff” so that we can do this. We like to call this "manufacturing with conscience"
