Ethical and Environmental Policy
At the heart of Miss Beau Bangles is our commitment to building sustainable trade links with developing communities. Our aim is to work with these communities on a trade not aid basis, to enable them to develop their own capacity to support themselves in the long term. All our products are either produced by developing communities, or are handmade in the UK using beads produced by developing communities. The communities we trade with are paid a fair price for their goods. They do not need to be certified as fair trade, but if not certified, they need to demonstrate how they ensure their workers are paid a fair price. We ensure fair and non-exploitative employment practices by asking suppliers about working conditions - numbers of workers, the working environment, number of hours worked per day, week and month, age of workers, and the health and safety of the processes involved in production. We also, where possible choose products and materials that are environmentally sustainable, so for example our current jewellery range includes the use of recycled paper beads, and beads made from the seeds of the acai berry tree.
