Our mission is to create positive change for business and society by showing businesses, particularly SMEs (small and medium enterprises) how ethical and responsible business can be the most profitable and sustainable. Membership of ORB is subject to businesses taking our benchmark Responsible Business Questionnaire, developed in conjunction with the University of Essex, and making the following pledge: "We pledge to operate our business in an honest and ethical manner; to consider people and the environment when making business decisions; and endeavour to make a positive contribution to the local community and society at large." Our goal is to attract businesses of all sizes and from all sectors; to show them that Responsible Business = Profitable Business; and encourage them to adopt a mindset that embraces change. After all, as Charles Darwin said: "It is not the strongest who survive......................but the one most responsive to change." The business world is changing. Consumers want to know more about the businesses they are dealing with. We aim to “convert” businesses which hitherto have not fully adopted the social and environmental agenda and show them how embracing this new paradigm well help their business thrive - as well as helping our precious society. Members display the ORB Responsible Business logo on their website, their stationery and even on their vehicles. They will get an entry in our special online members' directory The Responsible Business Directory and, very importantly, be kept up to date with information that can help support their responsible business aspirations.
