Bambienti
At Bambienti we design and produce furniture and accessories made from Bamboo. Our products include chairs and seating, coffee and occasional tables, room divider screens, a range of storage items including garment rails and towel ladders, lighting, accessories and garden features. Our products are all made in small to medium sized workshops.
By producing furniture using Bamboo we hope to support a necessary process that reduces our reliance upon already limited sustainable timber resources.
Bamboo is sustainable by natural design and requires no replanting after harvesting. When a tree is cut down it is gone forever, but after harvesting Bamboo just keeps on growing. This is because it has an extensive net like root system that continues to send up new shoots.
Bamboo provides natural countenance for a planet with increasing CO2 emissions. It releases more oxygen than the equivalent strands of trees, as much as 35% in some instances. Some species are capable of sequestering up to 12 tons of carbon dioxide from the air per hectare (10,000 m2). There are well over a thousand species of Bamboo in existence and none of those species used for our products are those used for food by the Panda bear.

Ethical and Environmental Policy

We believe that the talented people that work with us in the production of our products should work in clean and safe conditions. As a general rule of thumb we prefer to work with family run medium sized workshops in preference to the larger factories. We believe that these environments are more likely to inspire human creativity and less likely to inhibit, frustrate and marginalize workers.
Regular visits are made to all workshops as part of an initial process of learning; this enables us to get a feel for the people, their conditions and their principles before we commit to a relationship. We make regular visits and checks to ensure that any expansion is managed in a way that does not undermine our efforts in this area.
We make regular checks to ensure that children are not employed in our partner workshops. Its pleasing to us that the people we work with recognise the importance of education and to date we have not experienced any situations where children are being employed. We remain focused to ensure this situation is maintained.
Wage rates vary from place to place making a standard policy somewhat complicated to apply. However we do assess the wage rates within a workshop in relation to the local community before committing to a partnership. We aim to ensure that staff are paid above the average for the area and the skill type. Our principle is to prefer working with family and community orientated workshops to ensure that there is a more equitable approach to wages with benefits enjoyed by all.
