Bluecaravan [ethical design market] is an online venue supporting a huge range of contemporary handmade, sweat-free and fairtrade products by independent designers artists & artisans.
We believe that objects ‘warmed’ by designers, artists and artisans have a quality like no other… and that ‘ethical’ is no longer a choice separated from style and design.
It’s about lovely, interesting and edgy products; beautifully finished, made with heart, and bought directly from the designer/maker.
Ethical and Environmental Policy
On Bluecaravan, ‘ethical’ refers first and foremost to production practices, and then to the materials and/or application of the product itself. In other words, a 100% certified organic bamboo product made in an overseas, local, or locally outsourced sweat shop, does not excite.We believe that direct trade with designers, artists and artisans is the base line for an ethical transaction, which is why you’ll find lots of one-off and small-scale handmade products here.
Direct trade with overseas co-ops and communities is encouraged (with guidance & guidelines), and Fairtrade certification (or the equivalent) is necessary for imported products operating outside a ‘direct trade’ model.
With ‘local products’ made outside the scope of ‘handmade’ and ‘small scale’, we look for committed sweat-free manufacturers (such as Certton) or sweat-free certification, such as that offered by Ethical Clothing Australia, WRAP, The Fairwear Foundation, or the relevant body in your country.
