Bright Green Brands

So, after working for over 15 years at many of London's leading design agencies, for many (not-so-ethical) established leading brands, I decided it’s time to put my money where my heart is and focus on working with brands with a more environmentally & ethically minded outlook.

I believe such brands should have the chance to compete visually with their multi-national big brand rivals, and believe their chance of success can be greatly increased through establishing or developing a distinctive personality & visual presence.

Ethical and Environmental Policy

As I work mostly on my own, and from a home office, my ‘daily operations’ mostly consist of sitting at my desk in front of a computer. So there is a limited amount I can really say except that I switch off everything when not working, use GreenEnergy UK for electricity, Equigas for gas, order recycled ink cartridges and take the train into London (after riding my bicycle to the station!).


For my business cards I wanted to take ‘recycled‘ to the extreme. I had a rubber stamp made, sourced inking pads in metal tins (not plastic), and I print my details onto the reverse of card cut out from cereal packs and any other food packaging from the kitchen (which always seems to raise a smile when I hand them out).


On a personal level, for a long time I have been living green, not only recycling whatever can be recycled, but also actively avoiding buying anything based on it’s future destination.


For example: When in London I choose my lunch not only on the basis of the price, quality, locality, nutritional content, suitability to my blood type, and of course taste, but I also avoid anything packaged in plastic. This has become quite a challenge, and quite often I will sacrifice one or all of the rest, just to keep my plastic footprint to a minimum! (and possibly suffer a minor bout of indigestion).


So I guess Brand Packaging may seem rather at odds with my personal values. However, it gradually became my profession, and I was always in demand, as I seemed to have a natural talent for it, so I carried on working as a freelancer. This did, however, allow me to turn down bookings for anything I didn’t feel comfortable with.


So, I have now made the leap. I realised that what I would much rather be doing is helping companies / brands who I believe in, and genuinely WANT to help succeed, and who are at least open to the suggestion of 'green' packaging.
