Fashioning an Ethical Industry

Fashioning an Ethical Industry works with tutors and students of fashion-related courses to give an overview of how the fashion industry can positively and negatively impact on working conditions in garment manufacture and to inspire students - as the next generation of industry players - to raise standards for workers in the fashion industry of the future.

FEI works with tutors from fashion courses across the UK to integrate ethical issues related to garment manufacture into their teaching. Fashioning an Ethical Industry run student workshops, organise tutor training events, provide teaching resources and can work with tutors on curriculum development.

Ethical Policy

Fashioning an Ethical Industry (FEI) is a project of Labour Behind the Label - an organisation with Charitable aims - that supports garment workers' efforts worldwide to improve their working conditions. We educate consumers, lobby companies and government, raise awareness, and encourage international solidarity with workers. The FEI project provides fashion college students and tutors with an overview of the garment industry, raises awareness of current company practices and of initiatives to improve conditions, and equips students to play an active role in raising standards in the supply chains of the companies they will be working for in the future. The ultimate aim of the project is to embedded the teaching of social responsibility issues into the teaching of all fashion courses in the UK. The project in non for profit and is funded by the Department for International Development, the EU Development Education Fund and other Charitable trusts.
