Ethical and Environmental Policy
At Indigo Furniture honesty and integrity are central to business policy and practice.
We recognize that our work will have a direct and indirect impact on the local, national and
global environment. Therefore we endeavor to work alongside our customers to reduce waste,
safeguard natural resources and minimize any harmful effect we have on the environment.
Our approach acknowledges the necessity for sustainable development in the 21st century.
As a responsible retailer we are committed to using sustainable supplies of wood and promote
the use of natural renewable materials within our product range.
To us, business development means meeting the needs of our customers today, without
compromising the planet for generations to come.
Our products:
- All of the timber we use is sourced from suppliers who follow a responsible purchasing
policy and can provide the reassurance of a legal and progressively sustainable source
of wood. - We use reclaimed timber.
- Over 80% of our products are handmade locally here in Derbyshire; this minimizes air, sea
and land emissions produced by companies that import from further afield i.e. the Far East.
Our business:
- We actively promote reducing, reusing and recycling in our business.
- We save energy by turning off our screens and computers, lights and printers when not in use.
- We recycle our office waste; including paper and cardboard as well our printer cartridges and drums
- We recycle and reuse all the packaging used for delivery where possible.
- All our literature and paper materials are made from recycled paper
- We operate a car share scheme to encourage colleagues to minimize their carbon emissions.
- To help the environment, we are working in partnership with the Woodland Trust to save
and replenish the UK’s native woodland; for every sale of £500 and over, we will dedicate
a broadleaf tree to the UK's woods.
