LUMA

LUMA produces beautiful bed linens of the finest organic cottons in simple, timeless styles, as well as luxurious organic cotton towels and blankets. All are organically made with cotton from farms that practice sustainable farming methods handed down for generations.

LUMA has chosen suppliers on ethical as well as environmental grounds: its bed linen provider in India is a fair trade partner with Oxfam and Greenpeace and its Peruvian partner has just received fair trade certification for the organic pima cotton it supplies to LUMA. LUMA's Peruvian supplier has been leading fair trade projects in Peru for over 20 years, including the Native Cotton Project, a successful UNESCO backed project to recover land from cocaine cultivation and replace it with community based cotton farming.

The organic cotton range is accessorised by hand crafted blankets, throws and cushions with an emphasis on luxurious pure, natural fabrics and fair trade providers. For example, the range includes hand spun and woven pure pashmina from a women's cooperative in India who buy their wool directly from the nomads who rear the pashmina goats. There is also intricate hand embroidery organised by poverty relief groups.

Ethical and Environmental Policy

Please see company description above. LUMA was created to produce home textiles with the comfort of knowing that they have been made in the best way possible for the planet and its people. Bed linens are of organic cottons certified by the prestigious Dutch agency, Skal. Suppliers were selected who are leaders and role models in fair trade practices. LUMA's range of accessories has been developed in partnership with remote rural craft groups using their traditional skills on more luxurious yarns and fabrics.
