Mongrel
Mongrel was founded back in 2004. The aim was to create an ethical streetwear label. Their limited edition runs of hand-printed graphic tees are recognised for their dark humour that defines the brand. The collection is balanced with a range of versatile wardrobe staples and hard-working basics, unisex items and "forever" pieces.
Mongrel is a UK based eco-luxe fashion label specialising in ethically sourced certified organic jersey, peace silk (vegetarian silk), and unusual reclaimed fabrics. All Mongrel Clothing is made in Britain, sweatshop free and hand printed with water based ink.
Ethical and Environmental Policy
The organic cotton we use is from Control Union certified (formerly SKAL) farmers and manufactured to produce organic jersey. Our organic fabric meets Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS). GOTS covers environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing from seed to shelf. The fabric dyeing process uses low impact dyes, free from heavy metals such as chromium and formaldehyde or similar hazardous chemicals.All our printing is done at our studio here in the UK using water based inks.
Mongrel ‘Peace Silk’ fabrics are hand spun in India by small families and tribal groups. Our silk is made from the wild and semi-wild moths of India. The pierced cocoons are supplied for production by two reputed NGO's. Our organic jersey, peace silk and recycled pieces are all manufactured here in the UK. This reduces our carbon footprint by cutting back on air miles. And it means that we get to work with small businesses, with a skilled and experienced workforce. They supply us with short run and limited edition pieces, in good working conditions, for a fair price.
We believe that if a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well. That means from start to finish. Right down to the very last detail. We work with a small family-run label manufacturer. They're based in Wales and have over fifty years of experience. We don't believe in overpackaging but we do want your parcel to arrive in style. That's why your goods will be wrapped up nicely in recycled tissue paper and popped into a Biothene® bag.
