Mothers of Innovation Ltd
Mothers of Innovation aims to be the best website for trading great products for kids; stuff that is both practical and cool, made by innovative parents*, proven by their own families.
The site will be a vital resource to bring together family businesses, so that visitors can see inspired products and gifts.
As a parent I found no end of products to buy, but not always the things that would make my life easier or even more beautiful. When I made a 'Rockin Hood' for my daughter it made such a difference to me that I was soon taking in orders before I could really fulfil them. I realised there must be many other parents, with great products, who were in similar situations. The idea for Mothers of Innovation was born!
Mothers of Innovation will bring together great products; it will be exciting to look at, chatty and informative with great tips, stories and recipes too. In addition, as I care about my daughter's future, it will be as ethically focused as possible.
*We do not rule out grand parents or any other principal carers. We think you are great too!

Ethical and Environmental Policy
Mothers of Innovation has been set up to help bring parental innovation to market. We subscribe to the Ethical Junction CIC - Ethical Policy and their 6 Core Principles of Business Policy.
- Active care for the environment
- Responsible, fair and sustainable trading practice
- The avoidance of short term business practice that cause long term damage
- Equitable, non-exploitative employment practices
- Equality of opportunity and promotion of diversity
- Socially responsible activities
Specific Business Priorities
To make parents happy, whether as Innovators (sellers) or shoppers.
The site aims to be a great resource for small businesses as well as shoppers – by offering them what they want and need as well by being really friendly and open while we do it.
There is specialist search that will highlight and prioritise the most ethical products under the following categories:
- fairtrade
- organic
- British made
- made from recycled materials
- made to order, one off unique to this site
We will be trying to recruit businesses that fit within these criteria, however, currently other items will not be specifically excluded as this is a site dedicated to the carer innovators. In order to promote inclusivity I am avoiding making strict guidelines until their feasiblity for potential businesses can be fully assessed.
Environment
Reduce, recycle and reuse. Yes, as a start up company with limited funds it is essential to follow this mantra, in addition to the environmental imperative to do so.
As the site is about more than just commerce it will also feature recipes to recommend local, seasonal food. My associated blog will highlight and recommend the green parenting practices that I have undertaken, including reducing the amount you really need to buy to prepare for your first born, recycling and reusing washable nappies and washable wipes and living without a tumble dryer.
As a web based company we were invited by our web host to offer a few pointers to help mitigate their carbon footprint. This is an on-going project!
Helping Partner Businesses
To enable start up companies to take advantage of our business the site has been structured to be as accessible as possible. To enable any start-up company to benefit from my experience I am writing a blog detailing the steps in setting up a business, and I will include links to agencies and resources that will set new setup companies on the right track. More importantly, I am not charging any upfront fees or additional transaction charges over and above the small agency fee that will be charged for businesses selling through the site. For this fee I will undertake marketing and look after the on-line payments and websecurity.
Inclusion
While much of the text refers to 'Mothers' and to 'parents' running businesses I have done my best to also point out that we would love to hear from any carer. It is exclusive to carers as this is the only way that we can really focus on this group, otherwise it would be just another website selling stuff for kids. With families juggling the household income, childcare costs and careers I believe that this site should be focused on their needs from the outset.
Employment
We believe in inclusion and are against any form of prejudice. When we come to employing colleagues I will research and write an appropriate employment policy.
