Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign

The NSC works in partnership with progressive organisations in Nicaragua and the UK to promote social and economic justice. This is achieved through campaigning and lobbying in the UK and the development of political and economic solidarity at all levels between the UK and Nicaragua.

Ethical Policy

NSC & FAIR TRADE 2006 NSC is committed to fair trade, is a member of the Fairtrade Foundation and sends Fair Trade Study Tours to Nicaragua each year. Where possible the imported goods we sell are from Nicaragua or other Latin American countries, with part of the profits going back to the producers and / or fairly traded or ethically produced. Some of the other things we sell are produced in the UK to our own designs or bought from solidarity organisations. PROPORTIONS Of our imported goods, almost all are fairly traded. In 2005 fair trade goods made up 54% of our total sales (by number of items sold). SOURCES & EXAMPLES ? The Nicaraguan coffee we sell has the Fairtrade Mark. ? Nicaraguan cards: the artists receive part of the profits. ? T-shirts. Some NSC designs are printed on shirts sewn by a Nicaraguan womens co-op which is worker-owned and run. Our new designs are printed on Indian t-shirts with the Fairtrade Mark, produced by TRAIDCRAFT & ETHICAL THREADS. ? Mexican tinware, jewellery etc. is imported by JUST TRADE as are Guatemalan and Peruvian childrens clothes. (continued) ? Chocolate is bought from GREEN & BLACKS or DIVINE and has the Fairtrade Mark. ? Some clothes, paper products etc bought from SHARED EARTH. ? Footballs are bought in from FAIRDEAL FOOTBALLS and have Fairtrade Mark. ? Sweat-shirts etc. are bought in from EPONA and have Fairtrade Mark. IMPROVING OUR SOURCING. Buying t-shirts from the Nicaraguan co-op is not easy (supply chain and importing) so we still print on other t-shirts as well. This year we have produced two new designs and these are printed on t-shirts with the Fairtrade Mark.
