Sandblast Ltd

Sandblast is a London-based arts and human rights charity. We work with the Saharawis of Western Sahara, empowering them to tell their own story, promote their own culture and earn a living through the arts.

The Saharawis have lived in refugee camps in Algeria ever since Morocco occupied their country, Western Sahara, in 1975.

Sandblast runs a Saharawi Artists Fund to address the lack of opportunities for aspiring and established Saharawi artists. Through the fund we:

  • run workshops in the refugee camps to teach art and enhance income generation
  • help outstanding talent with access to residencies, master classes and international platforms
  • provide small bursaries for aspiring artists to pursue their creative ideas
  • promote and showcase Saharawi arts

Ethical Policy

Sandblast believes freedom of cultural expression is a fundamental human right. Culture and identity lie at the heart of the Saharawi struggle. But both are being threatened because several Saharawi generations have now grown up in exile, and because of repressive Moroccan policies in Western Sahara . Our focus, to raise awareness of their cause through the arts, echoes the peaceful and creative approach of the Saharawis.
