The range includes everything from organic vegetable bouillon (including a salt free version) to Fairtrade organic vanilla extract. The company was set up by husband and wife team - Axel and Sophie in 2003 - and they are committed to bringing you the best of organic and Fairtrade spices and ethical foods and groceries. Steenbergs was the first company to supply and sell spices carrying the Fairtrade Mark and continue to innovate in this area - the latest new Fairtrade spices include two new Steenbergs Fairtrade curry blends.
Steenbergs tea are specialists in organic Fairtrade single estate loose leaf tea and bagged and tagged organic Fairtrade peace tea (blended black) and green tea. Teas vary from the very popular organic Moroccan mint tea with three organic Fairtrade chai teas to the classic organic Fairtrade Earl Grey. We also offer a whole host of tea infusers, strainers and filters.

Ethical and Environmental Policy
. Paying a fair price • Steenbergs Organic will pay a fair price that balances the risks and rewards facing both parties. • Steenbergs Organic will pay all purchases from the developing world prior to dispatch and will consider paying no less than 50% on order. • Steenbergs Organic will pay its other suppliers on normal credit terms, which shall be no more than 60 days. • Steenbergs Organic will enter into long term trading arrangements with its suppliers and will not practice policies of constant switching and automatic price reductions. • Steenbergs Organic will not pass on its costs of marketing and brand development to its suppliers. 2. Fairtrade mark products • Steenbergs Organic shall be a pioneer in Fairtrade mark products. 3. Employment is freely chosen • There is no forced, bonded or involuntary prison labour. • Workers are free to leave their employer after reasonable notice. • Steenbergs Organic works with those who are striving to improve on local employment regulations. All local employment regulations are complied with. 4. Freedom of association/collective bargaining • Employees' rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining are met. • Where these rights are restricted in law, the employer facilitates these and does not hinder the development of parallel means for independent and free association or bargaining. If this remains unduly restrictive in comparison to generally accepted practice, Steenbergs Organic shall not enter into a business relationship. 5. Safe and hygienic working conditions • A safe and hygienic working environment shall be provided. Adequate steps shall be taken to reduce hazards in the work-place to protect the workforce from preventable accidents and ill health. • Any accommodation provided must be dignified. It must be clean, safe and have access to potable water and energy. • Access to medical care must be made available either directly within the working environment or locally through state provision. 6. Child labour shall not be used • Inappropriate child labour shall not be used. No child labour can be used that is exploitative or jeopardises the health, safety, education or morals of any child. • Children and young persons under 18 shall not be employed at night or in hazardous conditions. • Access to education must be available to secondary level and loans available for further education. 7. Living wages shall be paid • Wages and benefits paid for a standing working week must meet national legal requirements and ideally exceed national legal levels • All workers shall be provided with written and understandable information about their employment conditions in respect of wages before they enter employment and about the particulars of their wages for the pay period concerned each time they are paid. Illiterate workers must be explained in full all matters in their native language. • No deduction shall be made as a disciplinary measure nor shall any deductions be made from wages that are not provided for in national law. All disciplinary measures must be recorded. • All workers shall receive appropriate training to enable them to perform and to progress within a business to the best of their ability. 8. Working hours must not be excessive • Working hours must comply with national laws and industry standards as a minimum and shall be expected to exceed these. • Holidays and time off must be provided. • Pregnant women must be provided with time off prior to and after giving birth. • Time off should be provided for religious festivals, ill health and bereavements. 9. No discrimination is practiced • There shall be no discrimination in hiring, compensation, access to training, promotion, termination or retirement based on race, caste, pregnancy, national origin, religion, disability, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, union membership or political affiliation. 10. No harsh or inhumane treatment is allowed • Physical abuse or discipline, the threat of physical abuse or other harassment and verbal abuse or other forms of intimidation shall be prohibited. 11. No bribery or corruption is permitted • No bribes shall be paid or accepted to give or receive business. 12. All behaviour is reasonable and fair • All the behaviour of Steenbergs Organic and its suppliers shall be reasonable and fair. • Integrity and honesty are at the heart of Steenbergs Organic. We expect our people to maintain high ethical standards in everything they do, both in their work for the firm and in their personal lives. Similarly, we expect this of our suppliers in everything they do.
