The Africa House Limited
The Africa House sells a selection of fairly traded high quality soft furnishings and fashion accessories sourced from fair trade producers in Southern and Eastern Africa. Products include tableware, cushion covers, wall hangings, leather accessories, baskets, Kitchenware, Shanga jewellery, leather sandals, belts and bags. We also sell a selection of quality handmade rugs and recycled metals sculpture work. In addition we offer a choice of kikoys, kikoy bags and T-shirts. We only work with recognised fair trade producers who we know are providing fair employment conditions and regular salary payments.

Ethical Policy
The Africa House strives to enhance the quality of life for suppliers and their employees in the developing world through commercial trade. As an organisation The Africa House aims to: 1. Encourage and actively support fair trade best practice 1.1 Ensure that suppliers are either actively aspiring to or working with fair trade principals in all aspects of their business; 1.2 Encouraging respective supply chains to meet fair-trade best practice whenever possible; 1.3 Through commercial transactions encourage development of skills and experience for all partners and their employees; 1.4 Provide cash flow to for suppliers to meet the fulfilment of orders; 1.5 Encourage regular dialogue with suppliers in order to maximise commercial opportunities through feedback, face-to-face dialogue and ongoing communication. 2. Develop long term working partnerships 2.1 Develop long term mutually beneficial partnerships with suppliers; 2.2 Encourage and work towards improved quality and production processes; 2.3 Provide opportunities for market expansion through successful sales; 2.4 Discourage suppliers from poor business practice including corruption; 2.5 Champion strong commercial development as a practical means of reducing poverty and improving quality of life; 2.6 Discourage the employment of children. 3. Focus on improving employees’ quality of life 3.1 Insist on suppliers providing fair wages for their work; 3.2 Encourage training and personal development of skills; 3.3 Ensure that working conditions are favourable and safe; 3.4 Encourage strong communications between management and staff on relevant aspects of business activities; 3.5 Champion all aspects of recycling and environmental preservation in both commercial and personal lives. 4. Encourage the development of Economic and Commercial learning. 4.1 Through regular orders, strengthen the understanding of commercial and economic benefits to all producer stakeholders; 4.2 Provide realistic opportunities for suppliers to sell products in the developed world. 5. Encourage ongoing Care for the Environment 5.1 Through ongoing communications with supplier partners we encourage the use of recycled materials and sustainable materials in production processes; 5.2 Maximise the use of recycling, minimise the use of paper and purchase products for our own office operations from responsible suppliers. All potential supplier partnerships will undergo an extensive checking process to ensure that they meet the guidelines set out in the above fair trade policy. Where they fail to meet our expectations we shall not pursue any further commercial partnership unless there is a change in their practices. This policy will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.
