Ethical and Environmental Policy

Why recycle, or continue the spiral of consumerism when you can just re-work what you already have? People seem increasingly accepting of the clothing philosophy of giving what you have to charity because there is a button missing, then buying cheap, disposable clothing from the far east via the high street to replace it. There are so many little bits and pieces that can be done be some skill and an eye to sustain the life in your wardrobe.
I carry a stock of fabrics, most of which are second hand or vintage to work with in creating re-vamped outfits. I also re-dye shoes as occasion shoes are often thrown out after a couple of wears as they are outfit specific. I carry an extensive selection of darning wools, old lace and vintage buttons. If I do buy new haberdashery I try to use John Lewis because of their employment policies.
By offering this service to people at home I can see the potential in their clothing that has passed them by.
I am an active member of the Quaker and Business Group, which has many concerns relating to ethical business practice. At present I am a sole trader.
