Ethical and Environmental Policy

We carefully assess all of our suppliers to ensure they are working within the ethical boundaries we have set. We do not claim to be a “fair trade” retailer, because this label does not always apply, particularly with regard to our UK suppliers. However, we will not deviate from the following principles:

We have provided information about our suppliers alongside all of our products so our customers know what there are getting, where it comes from, who makes it and what impact their choice is having.

Where we work with local suppliers in the UK, we ensure that they have sound ethical policies in place and encourage them to improve these policies wherever we can. We believe that sometimes a local product can be kinder to the environment than one shipped from abroad. We aim to keep a balance between encouraging small, local suppliers and working with international producers on a fair trade basis.

Our packaging is a combination of recycled corrugated paper and oxo-biodegradable bubble film, plus we reuse any packaging received by us whenever possible. This means we do not use hard to recycle jiffy bags or plastic bags and can individually package each order to minimise waste.

It is our aim to return 5% of our profits to local, overseas and environmental charities. This will be done at the end of each quarter. In the longer term, it is our aim to work more closely with charitable organisations and become more directly involved in the producers we work with. This is something which will not happen immediately, but remains a key target.

Each of these commitments are made on our web site and we stand by them openly and proudly.
