whomadeyourpants?

whomadeyourpants? is a worker co-op empowering marginalised women by providing flexible employment, education and a social and community space.

Based in Southampton, UK, we buy offcuts (in hundreds of metres to ensure consistency across each range) from the lingerie trade and make pretty every day pants in traditional lingerie fibres, in three styles (brief, short, thong) and eight sizes (6 - 20). Our first range, Jasmine, will be on sale in time for Christmas 2009, and includes beautiful soft fabrics in black, white and pink. We will make pretty, desirable products, consistently sized and of the highest quality and aim to be seen as a reliable and open company.

We provide training up front in English and Skills for Life, and then each women is enrolled onto an apprenticeship, from which she will graduate with an NVQ level 2 in Manufacturing of Sewn Products. We provide access to a range of advisers and support services, a computer suite and an informal, safe, woman only space. As a co-operative, we are owned and controlled by our members - all workers are encouraged to become members of the co-operative. Members are eligible for profit share and will make decisions regarding all aspects of the business. It is hoped that, in time, many of the women will develop skills and confidence, enabling them to either take on more responsibility within the business, or move on into other jobs in the broader working world.
