Zodingdi

Zodingdi (previously Handloom Shop) is a home-based fair trade shop selling clothes, accessories and home goods produced by charity organisations, cooperatives and self-help groups working among disadvantaged people in India.

Our producers use traditional methods to make beautiful scarves and stoles, tablecloths and runners, bags, clothing and accessories from silk, organic cotton and other natural materials. Wherever possible we use organic and eco-friendly raw materials so that we help the environment as well as our workers.

We ensure that the producers involved receive a fair price for their labour in order that they can enjoy a better quality of life, including education for their children, adult literacy classes, employment and the opportunity to learn new skills.

This gives the workers increased independence and enables them to sustain their and their children's livelihood for the future.

We are now offering bespoke services on clothes, soft furnishings and accessories designed according to your own requirements, personalised hand crafted cards, cotton promotional bags, block printed fabrics with a wide variety of designs and colours to choose from.

Ethical and Environmental Policy

The main aim of Zodingdi is to promote fairtrade and provide outlet for disadvantaged producers in India. We have been working in close partnership with charity organisations, co-operative groups and self help groups over the years. When the need for an outlet to sell their products arises. Zodingdi is started.

As I was born and brought up in India.I feel running a fairtrade business is a very effective way of giving back to my community. I grew up with the knowledge of how the poor in India struggle to make ends meet and how they are exploited by those who have powers over them. As a result, various skills and potentials are wasted. For those who belong to the lower class of the society or for those who live in remote areas, no matter what skill they possess, chances of improving their life is very grim. Therefore we make it our aim to provide outlet for disadvantaged producers. Identify skills which are being wasted and help them use their skills in a more productive way.

We buy directly from the producers at the price they set themselves. At times we pay them in advance. We also make it a point to visit them at least once a year in order to spend time with them and teach them new crafts and new designs.

We have also identified more organisations and self help groups to work with and hopefully we'll be able to buy more products from them soon.

Our next plan of action is to use organic fairtrade cotton for our clothing line. For this I have spoken to Agrocel (Co-operative society for organic fairtrade farmers in India). If things go well,we should be able to materialised our plan in the near future.
